Although it dipped slightly from its year-ago premiere (down -3 percent in viewers, -6 percent in adults 18-49), the 15th (and final) season premiere of Fox’s “American Idol” was the top program of the night among total viewers and key demos, giving the network a definitive victory on Wednesday night in the midst of all original programming on the other Big 4 networks.
