Tuesday Overnights: NBC Wins; ‘The Conners’ Remains the Real Deal on ABC

Ratings Breakdown:
NBC was front and center in the household overnights on this final Tuesday in November, with a first-place finish in each half-hour care of “The Voice” (6.4 rating/11 share at 8 p.m.) and fall finale episodes of “This Is Us” (6.6/11 at 9 p.m.) and “New Amsterdam” (4.4/ 8 at 10 p.m.). Note to the Emmy voters: Put a check mark next to Ken Olin’s name for directing last night’s outstanding installment of “This Is Us.”

On ABC, “The Conners” scored a healthy (and certainly renew-worthy) 5.3/ 8 in households in the 8 p.m. half-hour. Comparably, this was six percent above the 5.0/ 8 one week earlier and it remains a considerable improvement over year-ago time period occupant “The Middle.” “The Conners” is also ABC’s highest rated sitcom. My only regret is we only get 11 episodes this season.

Unfortunately, ABC’s hidden gem “The Kids Are Alright” remains just that, with a 3.3/ 5 (#3) at 8:30 p.m. down by 38 percent. And that led into the 9-11 p.m. Tuesday combination of “black-ish” (#3: 2.7/ 4), sophomore “Splitting Up Together” (#4: .1/ 3) and recent crime drama entry “The Rookie” (#3: 3.1/ 5), which could not beat an encore telecast of competing “FBI” on CBS (#2: 3./ 5).

Elsewhere, Fox and The CW had nothing unusual to report with its drama pairings. See below chart. And CBS featured its first repeat installment of the season of holiday classic “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” (#2: 4.7/ 8 at 8 p.m.) into an encore of “NCIS” (#: 4.5/ 7) at 9 p.m.
