Wednesday Overnights: Clean Sweep for NBC; Fox’s ‘The Masked Singer’ Down but Still Solid

Respectable Sampling for 'Schooled' on ABC

Wednesday, January 9, 2018

Household Rating/Share
NBC: 5.3/ 9, Fox: 3.7/ 6, CBS: 3.6/ 6, ABC: 2.9/ 5, CW: 0.4/ 1

Percent Change From the Year-Ago Week:
NBC: +23, Fox: +12, ABC: – 6, CBS: -12, CW: -43

Ratings Breakdown:
It was a clean Wednesday household overnight sweep for NBC with its combination of Dick Wolf dramas “Chicago Med” (#1 for the night: 5.8 rating/10 share at 8 p.m.), “Chicago Fire” (5.5/ 9 at 9 p.m.) and “Chicago PD” (4.8/ 9 at 10 p.m.). Comparably, this was a 23 percent improvement over the year-ago night (“The Blacklist,” “Law & Order: SVU” and “Chicago PD”).

In series premiere news, ABC sitcom “Schooled,” a spin-off from “The Goldbergs,” was sampled with a 3.4/ 6 (#3) at 8:30 p.m. Comparably, overnight retention out of lead-in “The Goldbergs” (#3: 3.7/ 6 at 8 p.m.) was solid at 92 percent. And this was an improvement of 13 percent from year-ago time period occupant “Speechless” (3.0/ 5 on 1/10/18). But based on the lack of any chuckles in the pilot episode, you can expect notable erosion in week two.

In season premiere news on ABC was “The Match Game” at a mere 2.0/ 4 (#3) at 10 p.m. Comparably, that trailed aforementioned “Chicago PD” and veteran “Criminal Minds” on CBS (#2: 3.2/ 6) by 58 percent and 37 percent, respectively.

In week two news, Fox competition “The Masked Singer” came down to earth, with a 4.9/ 9 (#2) in households in the 9 p.m. hour. Comparably, this was 23 percent below the week-ago 6.4/11 series opener. But this was still 22 percent above year-ago time period occupant “9-1-1” (4.0/ 6 on 1/10/18). It was 88 percent above lead-in “Gordon Ramsay’s 48 Hours To Hell and Back” (#4: 2.6/ 4 at 8 p.m.). And it is a shoo-in to dominate the night in all the key demos.

Elsewhere, “SEAL Team” on CBS was at a typical 3.7/ 6 (#3) in the Wednesday 9 p.m. hour. And the remainder of the evening was in a repeats.
