Note: PBS and CNN aired the Democratic Presidential Debate From 9-11 p.m.
ABC got some disappointing news following the return of its TGIT-themed Thursday drama black. “Grey’s Anatomy” opened the night with a 6.4 rating/10 share in the metered market households at 8 p.m., which was actually seven percent above the 6.0/10 on the year-ago evening. So, the results remain healthy for the veteran medical drama. Although a second-place 5.3/ 8 for “Scandal” at 9 p.m. is certainly not a negative overnight performance, comparably this was down by 13 percent from its winter finale on 11/19/15 and 23 percent below the 7.1/11 on the year-ago evening.
ABC’s sophomore “How To Get Away With Murder” followed with a series-low 4.3/ 7 at 10 p.m. (#1), which slid by 22 percent and 30 percent, respectively, from its winter finale (5.5/10 on 11/19/15) and year-ago performance (6.1/11 on 2/12/15).
Tops for the evening was soon-to-conclude “American Idol” on Fox, which scored a 6.0/10 in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m. “The Big Bang Theory” on CBS, of course, led the night overall with a 10.2/27 at 8 p.m., followed by a third-place 5.8/ 9 for freshman “Life in Pieces” at 8:30 p.m. Overnight retention for “Life in Pieces” out of “The Big Bang Theory” was typical at 57 percent.
Next on CBS was “Mom” at a respectable 5.2/ 8 (#3) in the 9 p.m. half-hour, followed by a repeat of “The Big Bang Theory” (#4: 4.0/ 6 at 9:30 p.m.) in place of canceled “Angel From Hell.” DVR-friendly “Elementary” capped off the night for the Eye net with a second-place 3.9/ 7 at 10 p.m., which was five percent above just renewed competing “Shades of Blue” on NBC (#3: 3.7/ 7).
Earlier in the evening on NBC was week three of “You, Me and the Apocalypse,” which dropped by 13 percent from last week at a series-low 2.0/ 3 (#4) at 8 p.m. And that led into a healthy 4.5/ 7 for “The Blacklist” at 9 p.m. (#4), which increased by 137 percent from the 8:30 p.m. portion of “You, Me and the Apocalypse” (1.9/ 3).
The CW closed the night with recently introduced “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” at a now typical 1.7/ 3 in the household overnights at 8 p.m., which was 31 percent above former time period occupant “The Vampire Diaries” on the year-ago evening (1.3/ 2 on 2/12/15). And it led into a 1.0/ 2 for drama “The 100” at 9 p.m., which slid by 41 percent.
