Ratings Breakdown:
NBC stood well above the competition, with a solid 78 percent advantage over second-place CBS in the Tuesday household overnights. This lead was a result of two-hours of“The Voice” at an 8.4 rating/13 share from 8-10 p.m. into a stellar 7.7/13 for debut/preview of “Little Big Shots,” hosted by Steve Harvey, at 10 p.m. Comparably, “Little Big Shots” opened with NBC’s highest metered-market household rating in the time period since the “Voice” finale on Dec. 15 (8.3 for the 10-11 p.m. hour). It was 30 percent above “Chicago Fire” on the year-ago evening (5.6/10 on 3.9/15). And the household retention for “Little Big Shots” out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of “The Voice” (8.8/14) was solid at 88 percent.
“Little Big Shots” debuts in its regularly scheduled Sunday 8 p.m. hour this weekend.
In time period premiere news, ABC sitcom “The Real O’Neals” was an improvement over “The Muppets” at a third-place 2.7/ 4 at 8:30 p.m. Comparably, this was 69 percent above the season (or series) finale of “The Muppets” last week (1.6/ 2 on March 1). It was 80 percent above the 1.5/ 2 (#4) for competing “Grandfathered” (#4: 1.5/ 2) on Fox. And overnight household retention for “The Real O’Neals” out of “Fresh Off the Boat” (#3: 3.3/ 5 at 8 p.m.) was very acceptable at 82 percent.
Next on ABC was the return of “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” at a 2.4/ 4 (#3) from 9-10 p.m., which was an improvement over recent time period filler “Marvel’s Agent Carter.” And it led into a weak 2.3/ 4 for the debut of long-delayed drama “Of Kings and Prophets” at 10 p.m. Comparably, the “Of Kings and Prophets” opener was only 15 percent above an encore telecast of failed drama “Forever” on the year-ago evening (2.0/ 3 on 3/8/15). And since most new shows drop in the range of 10 to 20 percent in week two, you can already forget about “Of Kings and Prophets.”
Despite almost identical overnight household ratings, you can expect “Off Kings and Prophets” to fall well below “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” in all the key young adult demographics.
Over at CBS, encore telecasts of “NCIS” and “NCIS: New Orleans” flipped time periods, with “New Orleans” at a 5.3/ 8 (#2) at 8 p.m. into a 5.2/ 8 for parent “NCIS” at 9 p.m. “Limitless” capped off the night with a distant second-place 3.5/ 6 at 10 p.m., which slipped by 33 percent from the “NCIS” repeat at 9 p.m.
On Fox, the 100th episode of sitcom “New Girl” finished a distant fourth at a 2.0/ 3 at 8 p.m. into a 1.5/ 2 (#4) for aforementioned “Grandfathered” at 8:30 p.m. Repeats of “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” (#4: 1.0/ 2) and
“The Grinder” (#4: 1.0/ 1) followed from 9-10 p.m.
The CW closed the night with encores of “The Flash” (#5: 0.9/ 1) and “iZombie” (#5: 0.4/ 1).
