Nobody is born a legend, you need to work extremely hard and climb to the top with burning passion and courage. Having raw talent is one, but when in actuality, putting the work will get you places instead. The music industry is extremely difficult to conquer, especially if you want to do something out of the box and unique. It takes more than just having an idea, you also need to put your blood, sweat, and tears into it, to give it your all – this is the true way of every creator and the only way that will birth something sincere.
Clear vision
When creating anything, it’s important to know what exactly you want others to get from it. The same goes for making music, what do you want to tell to your listeners? Start from there, sometimes it’s better to have a mapped out plan of the overall feeling and vibe of the record or track. The first stages of creating can be crucial and you should determine everything beforehand. Having a clear vision on what you want to create can save you time in the long run, so make sure to get them on time, since it does determine the course of further creating.
Surpass the creator’s block
Being stuck while creating something is super common and it happens to the best of them, so don’t lose hope just yet! Even if the initial vision and idea seem to slip away, try messing around for a little bit, maybe you’ll get inspired by that. Plenty of music library providers give you the opportunity to take already made stuff and mix it to your liking. This way you’ll have a base to start with and build your sound and style from there. So you won’t have to start from scratch! Also, this might add just the flair you were looking for!
Stand out
Different is good, having a distinctive, unique sound is probably the only way you’ll get your work out there. Music gets produced and made every hour of every day, and the market is just getting bigger and bigger. This is why you don’t want to copy other artists and try to produce something that’s recognizable, so it can stand out in the sea of music. If you create something that’s unique, people will remember it and be naturally drawn to it. So don’t be scared to experiment and incorporate different techniques, by doing this you’ll get the special flair you’ve been looking for.
Ask for feedback
Getting feedback and maybe some constructive criticism with it is a great way to evolve as a creator. By letting other people state their opinion, this might just push you to change some elements you haven’t considered yourself. So feel free to ask your friends and family, they’ll be the first to tell you how good (or bad) something might be. If your close ones are too kind to tell you the truth, try asking someone from your field of work – they’ll always be up to discuss music!
Collaborate
Nobody can understand your brain as you do, so how can somebody else see the same vision as you? But that’s not the point, collabs are not there for you to find likeminded people that produce the same exact stuff as you – it’s about letting someone push you and lead you to create something that you didn’t even expect you can make. You can connect with other producers and creators on different forums and by using social media, that way you can contact and find people to work and experiment with – you never know what could happen!
Learn from the pros
One of the easiest ways to learn more about producing and actually get better at it – is by looking at how successful people did it. The industry is filled with veterans that have done it all, so you’ll just have to find your favorite artists and see what makes them tick. Read about success and how to achieve it yourself . This can be done not by copying them, but by understanding how and why they did certain things. Picking up the already established techniques and adding your spin is certainly the way to go!
Have fun
Don’t stress too much, even if you fall into a creative block, eventually, it will come to you. In the meantime, try to focus on the fun, creative part. Experiment and be open-minded about your creations. You never know what might come out of a random session, so never limit yourself while creating. This should be a fun and meaningful journey, so don’t rush it too much!
