Ratings Breakdown:
“Empire” topped the Wednesday overnights as usual, with a 6.8 rating/11 share in households at 9 p.m. Comparably, that was 106 percent above the 3.3/ 5 (#3) for lead-in “Rosewood” at 8 p.m., which benefits by the pre-tune-in for “Empire.” The two dramas, on average, gave dominant Fox a seven-tenth of a household rating point lead over second-place CBS.

The second-to-last episode of “Survivor,” which concludes next Wednesday with a two-hour installment followed by the live reunion show, led the 8 p.m. hour with a 5.6/10 in the household overnights. Comparably, this was on par with the year-ago evening.

“Survivor” led into a 9 p.m. installment of on-the-fence “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” at a fourth-place 3.7/ 6. Comparably, that trailed the week-ago season-finale of parent “Criminal Minds” (5.2/ 8 on May 4) by 29 percent and it was 10 percent below competing “Law & Order: SVU” on NBC (#3: 4.1/ 7). This will certainly not bode well for renewal.

The regularly scheduled Wednesday 10 p.m. edition of “Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders” finished second also with a 3.7/ 6, which was 16 percent below dominant “Chicago PD” on NBC (4.4/ 8). Third in the time period was ABC’s “Nashville” at a 3.0/ 5.

Earlier in the evening on NBC was waiting-to-be canceled medical drama “Heartbeat” at a fourth-place 2.7/ 4 at 8 p.m.

Elsewhere, ABC was at typical Wednesday overnight levels care of 8-10 p.m. sitcoms “The Middle” (#2: 4.7/ 8), “The Goldbergs” (#2: 4.4/ 7), “Modern Family” (#2: 5.1/ 8) and “black-ish” (#3: 3.7/ 6) and perennially low-rated drama “Nashville” (#3: 3.0/ 5 at 10 p.m.), which is likely to get 13-finale episodes for next season. The CW, meanwhile, featured “Arrow” (#5: 1./6 3) and “Supernatural” (#5: 1.2/ 2), which heads into season 12 next season.
