ABC, not surprisingly, has greenlit new medical drama “The Good Doctor” for the remainder of the season. The network has ordered nine additional episodes, taking the season one order to 22.
The series follows Dr. Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore), a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, who relocates from a quiet country life to join the prestigious St. Bonaventure hospital’s surgical unit. In addition to Highmore, the series also stars Antonia Thomas, Nicholas Gonzalez, Chuky Modu, Beau Garrett, Hill Harper, Richard Schiff, and Tamlyn Tomita.
Airing out of “Dancing With the Stars” in the Monday 10 p.m. hour, “The Good Doctor” was solid in week two with 11.5 million viewers and a 2.4 rating/9 share in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data. “The Good Doctor” is now the second freshman network series to be renewed for the season, joining CBS sitcom “Young Sheldon.”
