Is it easy to program the universal remote codes? Universal remote codes make it easy to operate your TV and other components. Codes for the universal remote are universal amongst all brands of television. Simply enter your TV’s brand and model number into the remote’s code search function, and it will find the correct codes for that specific brand. Codes are also universal amongst all brands of DVD and VCR players, some cable boxes, and other components.

The brand is a number or letter (depending on the manufacturer), usually found printed on the remote’s label. A remote’s code search function will look for that code in its memory. The model number is harder to find, but can generally be found either stamped into the TV. If you cannot find a model number for your TV or component, you can usually determine your TV’s model number by looking at it from the rear end; if no numbers appear in high-resolution screen printing.

Universal Remote Codes List

Universal remote codes are a series of 4 to 8 alphanumeric characters that are used to program a branded remote control of another brand. The codes act like a book that has keys for each brand. The remote controller for that particular brand needs to have the exact same book, so it can be programmed with the correct code. In addition to being used for programming, universal remote codes may also be used as a set password if your TV supports it.

Remote codes are programmable from within the manufacturer’s own remotes or control systems software (computer). The universal remote is then added as an option to control the manufacturer’s systems. Universal remote codes are more flexible because they can be programmed through any manufacturer’s remote. The universal remote is often able to access features that the manufacturer’s remote cannot, such as macro capability.

What is a ‘remote code’?

Remote codes (also called IR codes) are the set of instructions that tell your television what to do when you press a button on your universal remote control. In order for you to use your universal remote, it needs to have the right code for your TV. Each manufacturer has their own code list, and each one is different from one another. Sometimes there are two or three different codes for a single brand of TV, depending on which brand of universal remote you have.

How easy is it to program universal remote codes?

A few minutes of your time is all it takes to program a remote code. First, make sure that your TV is switched on and that the power button is on.

Press whatever button you use to access the setup menus (usually the TV’s menu button or a “Menu” button) on your universal remote control. After pressing this button, you will see a list of options appear on your TV screen, such as “Setup,” “Browser,” etc. This menu list will be very similar to most universal remotes.

The last one listed should be “Program.” If there is more than one menu you can use to program codes, pick the one for programming codes by clicking the red arrow to move it up in the menu list.
