Apple TV+ Cancels ‘Schmigadoon!’

Apple TV+ has opted against a third season of the musical comedy “Schmigadoon!” The series followed Josh (Keggan-Michael Key) and Melissa (Cecily Strong), two doctors from New York who go on a backpacking trip when their relationship hits a rough patch and find themselves lost in the town of Schmigadoon — where life is a 1940s-50s musical with songs and characters inspired by “Oklahoma!” and “The Music Man,” among others. They can only escape after they find true love, whether that’s with each other or someone else. After they do find true love, Season 2 sees Josh and Melissa in Schmicago, the world of 60’s and 70’s musicals.

Also featured in “Schmigadoon!” were Dove Cameron, Ariana DeBose, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, Aaron Tveit, Tituss Burgess, Patrick Page, and Martin Short.

From executive producer Lorne Michaels and Universal Television, co-creator Cinco Paul served as showrunner and co-created the series alongside Ken Daurio.

“Schmigadoon” becomes the latest Apple scripted series to get the ax and joins “Swagger,” “The After Party” and animated comedy “Central Park” in being canceled at the streamer. A total of 12 episodes were produced.
