Apple TV+ has given a straight-to-series order for “Strange Planet,” a new animated series from co-creators and executive producers Dan Harmon (“Rick and Morty,” “Community”) and Nathan Pyle, who created the webcomic and graphic novels of the same name. Produced by Apple Studios and animation studio and production house ShadowMachine, “Strange Planet” tells profound and heartfelt stories about beings on a distant planet not unlike our own.

Amalia Levari will serve as showrunner of “Strange Planet.”

It joins the upcoming slate of Apple originals that will be produced by Apple Studios, including “Killers of the Flower Moon” from Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio; “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey,” a new six-episode limited series starring and executive produced by Samuel L. Jackson, and based on the moving novel by Walter Mosley; “Snow Blind,” a new feature film, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and directed by Gustav Möller; “Emancipation,” from director Antoine Fuqua and starring and produced by Will Smith; “Masters of the Air,” a new limited drama series from Apple Studios and executive produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television; and Tom Hanks & Gary Goetzman’s Playtone; a new drama series from Team Downey and Adam Perlman; “High Desert,” a new comedy series with Patricia Arquette; and “Lessons in Chemistry” starring and executive produced by Brie Larson.
