Broadcast Calls of Gonzaga Bulldogs’ Buzzer-Beating Moment from NCAA Final Four Classic

In what many deem as one of the greatest college basketball games ever played, it was a highly competitive contest between the West region winner Gonzaga Bulldogs and the East region winner UCLA Bruins in the national semifinal of the 2021 NCAA men’s basketball tournament on Apr. 3 from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind.

Prior to the game, Vegas odds had Gonzaga favored to win by 14 points, but similar to their previous contests throughout the tournament, UCLA exceeded expectations and played to the level of their supposedly superior opponent. The tight match of UCLA-Gonzaga went into overtime 81-81. With 3.3 seconds remaining in the overtime period, UCLA scored to tie it again 90-90.

Gonzaga’s guard Jalen Suggs, not opting to call a timeout, dribbled all the way to shortly past mid-court to heave the ball towards the basket as the clock expired.

That ball bounced off the backboard and into the basket for the 93-90 win, sending Gonzaga in to the national championship. Gonzaga, the sixth team within the past 45 years to enter the tournament with an undefeated regular-season record, is attempting to become the first team to complete an undefeated season for the first time since the 1976 Indiana Hoosiers.

There were four broadcast calls of the memorable moment of Suggs’ buzzer-beater: Jim Nantz for CBS, Sean McDonough for ESPN International, Kevin Kugler for Westwood One radio, and Tom Hudson for Gonzaga University radio. Check them out:
