Movie franchise “The Bad News Bears,” which hit the theaters in 1976 and spawned two sequels (“The Bad News Bears in Breaking Training” in 1977 and “The Bad News Bears Go to Japan” in 1978) and a 2005 film remake, is in the development stages at CBS for a reboot comedy with a female lead. This will be the second series reboot by the Eye net, which aired the first, starring Jack Warden, for two seasons (from 1979 to 1980).

The movie, of course, starred Walter Matthau as Morris Buttermaker, an alcoholic pool cleaner/former minor league baseball pitcher who was is recruited to coach the titular youth baseball team comprised of misfit players. The youth cast included Tatum O’Neal as wunderkind pitcher Amanda Wurlitzer and Jackie Earle Haley as bad boy Kelly Leak.

In this proposed new reboot from Kapital Entertainment and TrillTV and written by Corey Nickerson (“black-ish”), a down-on-her-luck divorced mom coaches a team of misfits in a cutthroat Little League. No casting has been announced at press time.
