ChaiFlicks Acquires Rights to Four Series From yes Studios

Includes is All Four Seasons of the Comedy 'Checkout'

ChaiFlicks, the streaming platform for Jewish storytelling, has acquired the rights to four series from yes Studios in Israel, including all four seasons of the comedy “Checkout,” it was announced today by ChaiFlicks’ Co-Founder Neil Friedman.

The global streamer, which is now available in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK, has also acquired the rights to yes Studios’ “Unsilenced,” which recently won numerous Israeli Television Academy Awards including Best Drama series, as well as “The Chef” and “Just for Today.”

ChaiFlicks will debut the fourth season of “Checkout” in November and launch “Unsilenced” in September, “The Chef” in December and “Just for Today” in early 2025.

In its deal with yes Studios, Chaiflicks has renewed the first three seasons of “Checkout,” which had previously been available on the streamer. “Checkout,” which has won the Israeli Television Academy Award for a comedy series multiple times and was named the best Jewish TV series by The Forward in 2021, is led by one of Israel’s hottest stars, Noa Koler. Koler also has a leading role in the series “Fire Dance,” which is currently available on ChaiFlicks, as well.

“Our team at ChaiFlicks continues to scour the world for the best Jewish programming available and we’re thrilled to add these critically acclaimed series from our partners at yes Studios,” says Friedman. “‘Checkout’ starring Noa Koler has been one of our most popular series at ChaiFlicks since it first debuted and we can’t wait to make the fourth season available to our global subscribers, as well as these other phenomenal, award-winning drama series.”

Israel’s highest-rated comedy, “Checkout” has been one of ChaiFlicks’ most-watched series since it first season debuted on the streamer in 2021. “Checkout” is a comedy series created by Nadav Frishman and Yaniv Zohar and produced by July August Productions that takes place in the Yavne branch of the fictional supermarket “Shefa Isaschar” and follows the routine interactions between the store’s workers and customers. “Checkout” has won and been nominated for numerous awards in Israel and abroad, including a nomination for the International Emmy Awards, 10 nominations at the Israeli Television Academy Awards in 2020. The series took home the prize for best sitcom in 2020 and again in 2021, when it was nominated for 13 Israeli Television Academy Awards.

Based on novel The Confidante and inspired by real life events, “Unsilenced” follows the newly elected Israeli president with rumors of sexual assault and rape of a staffer swirling around him. His top adviser realizes that if news of this leaks out, the scandal could destroy the President’s career and his own. Yet more women are stepping forward to corroborate the account. In addition to winning Best Drama Series at the Israeli Television Academy Awards this past spring, “Unsilenced” also won best leading actress, actor, supporting actor, directing and screenplay. The series was created by Avraham Shalom Levi, Tamar Marom Moish Goldberg, and Einat Zilber Damari and produced by Great Productions.

“The Chef” is an award-winning drama that follows an unemployed high-tech worker who starts working in the kitchen of a prestigious restaurant run by a brilliant chef, who is struggling to stay relevant and keep his place at the top of the ultra-competitive gastronomic world. The series explores toxic masculinity and the fragility of the male ego through the juxtaposition of its two leading male characters. The new cook is a family man collapsing under the weight of his responsibilities and his humdrum experience, while the chef is single, hedonistic, and self-absorbed, seemingly at the top of his game. The series was created by Erez Kavel, and Orit Dabush and produced by Kastina Communications.

From Nir Bergman (HBO’s “In Treatment”) and winner of the Special Jury Prize at Series Mania, and Best Series at the Zurich Film Festival, “Just for Today” is set in a half-way home for recently released prisoners that is facing permanent closure. The former prisoners face a dramatic junction – will they be able to integrate back into society or will they be thrown back into their previous lives? The series centers around a social worker and current manager of the group home, who deals with both the shutting down of her life’s work and the reemergence her former ward and flame.

ChaiFlicks recently launched the critically acclaimed, six-part scripted series Kafka timed to the 100th anniversary of the famed Bohemian writer’s death. Directed by Georg Maas and Judith Kaufmann, The Glory of Life explores Kafka’s last year of life, which becomes his happiest due to the power of love.

Kafka was produced in Vienna and Salzburg, Austria, and stars Swiss actor Joel Basman (“The Awakening of Motti Wolkenbruch” and “The Monuments Men”) as Kafka. Kafka is directed by David Schalko (“Braunschlag”) and from Austrian and German public broadcasters ORF and ARD and Schalko’s Superfilm.
