ChaiFlicks, the streaming platform for Jewish storytelling, has signed a deal with Chicago-based Music Box Films, licensing numerous international movies. The streamer has licensed 15 titles from Music Box Films, including Academy Award-winning “Ida” and Golden Globes-nominated “Gett: The Trial of Vivane Amsalem.” Other titles include “Memoir of War,” “Golden Voices” and “Aida’s Secrets.”
ChaiFlicks, which has over 3,000 hours of top Jewish films, TV series and documentaries, plans to launch “Ida” and the other new titles on its platform later this year. Music Box Films, dedicated to curating a diverse repertoire of films and TV series from around the world, works in partnership with Chicago’s iconic Music Box Theatre.
“We are thrilled to partner with the team at Music Box Films and add these tremendous titles to our growing list of critically acclaimed Jewish movies, TV series and documentaries,” said Bogin Oshin, ChaiFlicks Co-Founder Heidi Bogin Oshin.. “We know that our subscribers will fully appreciate and enjoy films such as ‘Ida’ and ‘Gett: The Trial of Vivane Amsalem’ alongside all the other great content we already offer.”
“Ida,” which won the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film Award in 2013, is set in Poland in 1962 and follows a young woman on the verge of taking vows as a Catholic nun. Orphaned as an infant during the German occupation of World War II, she must meet her aunt, a former Communist state prosecutor and only surviving relative, who tells her that her parents were Jewish. The two women embark on a road trip into the Polish countryside to learn the fate of their relatives.
“Gett: The Trial of Vivianne Amsalem” was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2015 Golden Globes and stars Israeli film icon Ronit Elkabetz (‘Late Marriage’). “Memoir of War,” which stars Benoit Magimel (“The Taste of Things” and “The Piano Teacher”).
The deal with Music Box Films comes on the heels of ChaiFlicks’ successful recent launch of “Fire Dance,” Israeli filmmaker Rama Burshtein-Shai’s critically acclaimed TV series that is a coming-of-age story of a young, troubled woman in a tight knit ultra-orthodox religious sect. From the producers of “Fauda” and “Shtisel,” “Fire Dance” has quickly become ChaiFlicks’ most popular series, setting numerous viewing records since its March debut.
