Despite the failure of the new “Dallas” on TNT in recent years, The CW is developing a new version of “Dynasty,” which originally began a nine-season run on ABC in January 1981 in response to the mega-success of the original “Dallas” on CBS. The scoop on this “Dynasty” 2.0: The new series will be told primarily through the perspectives of two female characters locked in conflict — Fallon Carrington, daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington, and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal, a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class.

Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, the masterminds behind primetime serials “Gossip Girl” and “The O.C.” are joining forces with Esther Shapiro and Richard Shapiro, creators of the original “Dynasty.”

The first “Dynasty,” which did not catch on until Joan Collins joined the cast in the first season finale as Blake Carrington’s (John Forsythe) ex-wife Alexis, focused on the conflict between Blake, Alexis and Blake’s new wife Krystle (Linda Evans). This Cristal will be a version of the Krystle character in the CW version, giving it a more diverse feel. The potential new series is being eyed for 2017.
