Disappointing Start for CBS Military Drama ‘The Code’

Ratings Breakdown:
It was another clean Tuesday household overnight sweep for CBS care of dramas “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 8.0 rating/14 share at 8 p.m.), the series premiere of “The Code” (5.4/ 9 at 9 p.m.) and “NCIS: New Orleans” (4.6/ 8 at 10 p.m.). While “The Code” was certainly sampled, it dropped by 32 percent from “NCIS” and was 13 percent below “FBI” one week earlier (6.2/11 on April 2). Since most new series drop in the vicinity of 10 to 20 percent in week two, consider the overnights this first episode of “The Code” somewhat disappointing.

In time period premiere news, recent NBC drama entry “The Village” scored a 3.2/ 6 in the household overnights at 9 p.m. Comparably, this dropped from lead-in “The Voice” (#2: 5.2/ 9 at 8 p.m.) by 38 percent. And it was 48 percent below the season finale of “This Is Us” last week (6.2/10).

In season (or series) finale news, a 2.0/ 3 (#3) in households for ABC comedy “Splitting Up Together” at 9:30 p.m. means there is unlikely to be a third season. Earlier in the evening in the alphabet net was its sluggish sitcom combination of “American Housewife” (#3: 2.6/ 5 at 8 p.m.), “The Kids Are Alright” (#3t: 2.1/ 4 at 8:30 p.m.) and critically acclaimed “black-ish” (#3: 2.3/ 4 at 9 p.m.).

At 10 p.m., the return of NBC medical drama “New Amsterdam” (#2: 3.5/ 7) bested ABC’s competing “The Rookie” (#3: 2.8/ 5) by 25 percent.
