Disney+ Cancels ‘The Spiderwick Project’

Disney+ has announced it will not air “The Spiderwick Chronicles”, its live-action series adaptation of the children’s fantasy books. Paramount Television Studios and 20th Television have already wrapped up production on the six-episode series, which is now being actively pitched to find a new home for streaming.

Based on the series of children’s books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, the project was described as a modern coming-of-age story combined with fantasy adventure. It was set to follow the Grace family — twin brothers Jared and Simon, their sister Mallory, and mother Helen — as they moved into their dilapidated ancestral home and began to unravel a dark mystery about their great-great uncle who once discovered the secret and maybe foreboding faerie world existing parallel to their own.

The cast of “The Spiderwick Chronicles” includes Christian Slater as Mulgarath, an ogre with a plot to satisfy his hunger; Jack Dylan Grazer as Thimbletack; Lyon Daniels as Jared Grace; Noah Cottrell as Simon Grace; Joy Bryant as Helen Grace; and Mychala Lee as Mallory Grace.
