  1. Why is Fox wasting the Empire crowd on Rosewood? It’s a clear loser. Find something else already to air there!

    • What would you suggest? Fox is in a dire situation of not really having anything. They have Bones coming soon with something else but they have that slated for Thursday when Idol finishes.

      • Lucifer seems like a decent show and is more worthy of a few more eyeballs than Rosewood, which did okay only given its time slot last fall.

      • In “olden days” (ie 15 years ago) the networks actually made replacement shows which they could insert where needed.

15 years ago, Rosewood would have been long canceled and replaced. At the very least, it would not have survived mid-season.

That is the effect of years of making flops and having less and less money to play with… (and not some curse placed on the networks by the internet!)

      • I agree with that but would rather they tried to use the Empire halo to get sampling for something else. Even their anemic Tuesday comedies would be worth a short there. I bet they would do no worse!

      • Which is alarming as it will be yet another flop being renewed at a time where the networks need to go all-in looking for hits.

    • The pulldown from the lead-in was indeed unmistakable.

I agree with you that FOX’s stubbornness (and lack of anything else in reserve to put there!) is hurting them.

  2. Heartbeat, while holding on to most of last week’s audience probably isn’t doing well enough for a season 2, especially when NBC already has Chicago Med and Night Shift.

Empire did great and bucked the trend of failing midseason returns!

  3. Empire stays strong and is the only positive going for FOX heading into next season. Looks like Empire is destined to probably have another couple of great seasons to stay over in the 3s or 2.5s by the fourth season and stay over 10 million viewers. I think it will trend similar to Desperate Housewives run which will be good for the show and FOX. I watched it live last night despite missing the prior two episodes and I didn’t feel lost as people were spoiling me anyways. It was a great episode and probably the best of the second season so far in my opinion.

Rosewood is a weird show it does better in front of Empire but weak without it, obviously pre-tunage here. I’m surprised Rosewood hasn’t caught on better it’s a very easy show to get into especially since it’s a procedural and it’s not terrible, must just not be must see TV.

I said it before and I’ll say it again that Nashville should be renewed as I heard CMT wants 100 episodes, another idea is to move Nashville over to CMT for a fifth and final season.

  4. Kudos to Survivor staying strong for CBS after all of these years as Survivor is a pure example of how valuable these reality competitions have become as FOX will learn a hard lesson next season how much of a mistake it was to get rid of American Idol. Every network’s reality competition or hybrid variety shows are pretty much either the highest rated show on the network or most watched show on the network or among the top like Survivor for CBS, Dancing with the Stars for ABC, and The Voice/Little Big Shots/America’s Got Talent on NBC.

Obviously the Shemar Moore and Empire affect has started to plague on Criminal Minds although it remained strong this week thanks to Paget Brewster probably who I’ve always believed to be the second most popular actor ever on that show behind Shemar Moore.

After just one week Chicago PD has taken back its throne as the owner of that Wednesday 10pm timeslot. I thought it might take one more week for Chicago PD to claim its spot at the top as I thought CM: BB would tie it this week but instead CM: BB is headed towards Code Black territory already getting its first 1.3 in just three episodes in that 10:30pm half-hour. Things are going to get much worse for this show looking this weak early on but the good news for Gary Senise’s Beyond Borders is that won’t have to face CPD for a while I believe until May Sweeps from what I’ve heard so that’s enough time to reestablish their audience and its getting the Survivor boost twice in the next 3 weeks so this is a test month for Beyond Borders future. For now though it’s not real competition like everything else Chicago PD has faced in that timeslot.

As for the future NBC Wednesdays since we know Heartbreat is such a flop. They’ve got a lot of options including just keeping the lineup the same with Laura leading off into SVU and PD closing out the night but I think NBC will change things around and we could see Laura on Fridays next season. Whatever NBC does they need to make sure that 8pm slot is well taken care of as I think NBC should ignore the whole 8pm family hour issue and have either SVU or Chicago PD lead-off the night next season or stay with Laura but it needs to be something that can draw anywhere between 6-8 million viewers and doesn’t go fractional in the demo consistently. Chicago Justice may be ready in the fall and if it is that’s an option for Wednesdays or Thursdays or they can start it off on Mondays. Also the 9pm hour is crucial because of Empire and Criminal Minds and SVU is so strong against them so you don’t want anything lead-in dependent there.

Another option here is Blacklist leading off Wednesdays especially if NBC goes with Little Big Shots in the fall on Thursdays which they will likely use to boost a comedy hour at 9pm and one drama at 10pm which would be Blindspot or something else. Shades of Blue can move to Fridays with Laura as well.

  5. I enjoy Rosewood but I don’t know what Fox is going to do about it. The pre tune in factor it cannot depend on. IT was doing worse than Hell’s Kitchen just last week.

NBC is in a healthy predicament when they pick up Chicago Justice. Move SVU to an earlier time slot? Later time slot? Most have complained that SVU and Criminal Minds have a lot of overlap so it would benefit if it was no longer in this time slot. The Thursday at 8PM situation really needs some work from something.

Heartbeat will be canceled. Mysteries of Laura will get a third season based on this
