Fox Orders Pilot for ‘Lethal Weapon’ Series

The List of Potential Series Based on Movies Continues to Grow

Fox has given a pilot order to “Lethal Weapon,” based on the film franchise. Damon Wayans, Sr. will star in the potential series as Roger Murtaugh, the character played by Danny Glover in the original 1987 movie and its three sequels, which co-starred Mel Gibson. The logline: “Lethal Weapon” will follow a Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs (yet to be cast) who suffers the loss of his wife and baby and moves to Los Angeles to start anew. There, he gets partnered with LAPD detective Roger Murtaugh, who, having recently suffered a “minor” heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life.

McG (“Charlie’s Angels”) will direct the hour-long pilot from Warner Bros. Television.

“Lethal Weapon” is the latest entry in the growing list of television adaptation of movies this pilot season, joining “Time After Time” on ABC; “Training Day” and “Nancy Drew” on CBS; “Urban Cowboy,” “Cruel Intentions” and “Taken” on NBC; “The Exorcist” on Fox;” and The CW’s “Frequency.”
