'The Resident' is Now the Fourth Freshman Series Greenlit by the Network

Fox, which officially announces its programming plans for next season on Tuesday, May 15, has renewed freshman medical drama “The Resident” from 20th Century Fox Television for a second season. Debuting on Jan. 21, 2018, “The Resident” centers on a tough, brilliant senior resident who guides an idealistic young doctor through his first day, pulling back the curtain on what really happens, both good and bad, in modern-day medicine. It stars Matt Czuchry, Bruce Greenwood, Manish Daya, Emily VanCamp, Moran Atias, Merrin Dungey, Shaunette Renée Wilson  and Melina Kanakaredes.

Season to-date, “The Resident”  is averaging more than 10 million multi-platform viewers per episode and improves its year-ago time period by 31 percent in the adult demographic, according to Nielsen. And it is now the fourth freshman series renewed by Fox following “The Gifted,” “The Orville” and “9-1-1.”
