ESPN led Friday prime time among adults 18-34 (approx. 0.9 rating) with its NBA doubleheader of “New York Knicks-Chicago Bulls” followed by “Golden State Warriors-Los Angeles Lakers.” The 5-hour span of NBA action drew an average of 2.24 million viewers, representing an increase of 63 percent from the year-ago ESPN NBA doubleheader (Miami-Indiana and Houston-Sacramento, 1.38 million from 11/06/15). The Lakers’ 117-97 win over the defending Western Conference champion Warriors in the nightcap (2.494 million viewers) saw a larger gain: +86 percent from the aforementioned Rockets-Kings year-ago matchup (1.341 million from 11/06/15).
The earlier Knicks-Bulls telecast (1.998 million viewers) drew a 4.5 rating in the Chicago market, which is the highest-rated, regular-season ESPN NBA game in two years in the market.
Additionally, compared to 11/06/15, ESPN’s streaming audience for the doubleheader was up 134 percent with 10.46 million total average minutes streamed, up 96 percent with 238,000 average unique viewers and up 126 percent with an average audience of 68,000 viewers.
