HBO Cancels ‘Vice News Tonight’

Nightly Half-Hour Newscast Ran for Seven Seasons

HBO has opted not to move forward on an eighth season of “Vice News Tonight.” The half-hour news program, led by Josh Tyrangiel, debuted in 2016 to significant fanfare, airing nightly on HBO with the aim of providing viewers context for the biggest stories of the day.

Vice and HBO announced a content partnership in March 2015. At the time, it was seen as a chance for the premium channel to reach younger audiences that are attracted to Vice. Vice  hopes to keep the newscast going with another distributor, but the company announced that Josh Tyrangiel, the company’s executive vice president who launched the newscast, will be leaving.
