HBO is developing a new drama based on the book “Sphere” from “Westworld” executive Denise Thé at the helm. Described as an epic undersea adventure in the spirit of Jules Verne, “Sphere” follows a group of scientists who are sent to inspect a mysterious alien craft at the bottom of the ocean. Once there, however, the intellectuals are forced to confront the mind-blowing mysteries of the universe, giant marine creatures, and the terrifying truth that humans can be just as alien as extraterrestrials.
Thé, who will also serve as showrunner, will executive produce with Jonathan Nolan of Kilter Films, Joy and Athena Wickham and Team Downey’s Robert Downey Jr, Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell. The project is a co-production of Kilter Films, Team Downey and Warner Bros. TV.
There is no confirmation on the number of episodes of “Sphere” ordered and the expectation is a 2021 premiere.
