1. Introduction

Curly wigs are wigs that can never go out of style. They are amazing at accentuating one’s look. It is great for those who want to wear curly wigs that match their own curly texture. Curly wigs come in tight, large, wavy, or medium curls. Unlike straight hair, curly wigs require minimal maintenance,  nonetheless, you have to ensure proper care of it to maintain healthy-looking soft, bouncy, and shiny curls. Below we have included a few hair care advice tips for your curly wigs.

2. How To Care Of A Curly Wig

1. Wash Your Curly Wig

This is critical. You should clean your curly wig to get rid of product build-up, dirt, pollution, and adhesive residue on the wig. Failing to thoroughly clean your curly wig can damage the root of the wig and base material because of all the gunk stuck. Use gentle well-formulated shampoo to properly clean the wig. Always use lukewarm water so as not to damage the hair strands.

2. Moisture

In order for your curly strands in the wig to remain shiny and healthy, it is important to ensure the wig is moisturized.  An unmoisturized wig will be dry and brittle which can lead to the curls knotting and potentially breaking off. Use leave-in conditioners and deep conditioners. Avoid products that hydrate the hair. Avoid products that have alcohol that can damage the structure of the wig and dry and can damage the structure of the wig.

3. Detangle

Do not neglect to detangle your curly wigs regularly. Curly wigs can easily tangle. This is because the curls will wrap around each other and form tangles. You always want to reduce the chances of the hair matting up. You never want hair on a wig to break it as hair loss is irreversible and you automatically reduce its density. Every curly strand on the wig matters. Depending on the size of the curls,  gently use a wide-tooth comb or fingers, spray on a detangling spray, and gently separate and detangle the curls.

4. Friction

For curly wigs, friction is one of the biggest enemies when it comes to causing damage. Curly wigs are highly vulnerable when friction happens. It leads to matting, the hair drying out, and eventually breaking. Friction too can damage the structure of the wig.

  • Avoid over-manipulating the curly wigs.
  • Sleep in satin or silk pillowcases and scarves. Cotton absorbs moisture and dries out the hair.
  • Cover hair when replacing at home to avoid rubbing against the furniture at home.

5. Heat

One thing we love about wigs is the versatility they provide. Curly wigs can take on heat very well. Nevertheless, too much heat can damage the curly wig. Reduce the amount of heat used on the wig. Always use a heat protectant before using heat on the wig.

6. Properly Store The Wig

How you choose to store your wig will determine its longevity. The curly wig is an investment and you want to stay looking good as long as possible. Safely taking off the wig at night and properly storing it will keep it safe and preserve the curls throughout the wig. The wig also gets to stay tangle-free, healthy, and hydrated. Safely storing the wig means;

  • Storing the wig away exposed to the sun over time can gradually damage the look of the wig.
  • Use a wig stand and place the wig at night when not in use.
  • Use the wig packaging originally provided. At Luvmehair we use sustainable packaging that stores the wig and the customers can continue to use it at home.
