ITV Orders Period Drama ‘Beecham House’

Project Comes From Guriner Chadha, the Writer, Director and Producer Behind 'Bend it Like Beckham'

U.K. broadcaster ITV has ordered India-set period drama “Beecham House” from Gurinder Chadha, the writer, director, and producer behind “Bend It Like Beckham.” Set on the cusp of the 19th century in Delhi, the series will follow the residents of Beecham House, an imposing mansion surrounded by exotic woods and pristine lawns. Dashing former soldier John Beecham has acquired the house to start a new life for his family and a business as a trader. Beecham’s life, however, is shrouded in mystery, leading to gossip and speculation that he is running from danger or tragedy.

Written by Gurinder Chadha (“Bend It Like Beckham”), Paul Mayeda Berges (“Viceroy’s House,” “The Mistress of Spices”), Shahrukh Husain (“In Custody”) and Victor Levin (“Mad Men”), the six part series will be filmed in India during the autumn of 2018. Caroline Levy will act as producer.  FremantleMedia International will act as the global distributor for the series.

The lives of the owner, his family and his staff will be the focus of the drama as John Beecham moves into the house determined to make it his safe haven.  Yet in spite of filling his residence with relatives and friends, intriguingly Beecham’s house still has dark corners which crackle with conspiracy, disharmony and sinister intent.
