‘Jack Ryan’ Season Two is Amazon Prime Video’s Most-Watched Series Release To-Date

Earlier this week, Nielsen released United States viewership data for the second season of Amazon Prime Video’s “Jack Ryan“.

The series, based on the novels of Tom Clancy and co-created by Carlton Cuse (“LOST”, “Bates Motel”), stars John Krasinski (“The Office”) in the title role of the famed CIA officer. In season two, his mission to uncover illegal arms dealing leads him into the jungles of Venezuela.

To date, “Jack Ryan” is the most-watched series on Amazon Prime Video, according to Nielsen. The entire second season officially debuted on the Prime service on Oct. 31, one day prior to its highly-promoted release date. Over the course of the seven day period of Oct. 31 thru Nov. 6, “Jack Ryan” delivered an average minute audience of approximately 4.61 million U.S. viewers (aged 2 years old or older) for its 8-episode second season as well as an average minute audience of 7.29 million viewers for the season’s first episode. In addition, the first episode of the second season was watched by 950,000 viewers on Oct. 31 and another 2.06 million on Nov. 1.

Breaking down viewer economics, “Jack Ryan” had an average household median income of almost $95,000 which is larger than both the household median income of the total U.S. ($59,500) and the average Netflix program viewer ($69,100).

  • About 45 percent of the show’s average minute audience over its first seven days were within the key 18-49 buying demographic.

  • The average minute audience of Season 2 overall outpaced that of Season 1.

    • 866,000 U.S. viewers watched any episode of the second season on its official premiere date compared to 613,000 for Season 1 on its premiere date.
  • On its official premiere day, 171,000 U.S. viewers watched all of season 2.

  • In comparison, Amazon’s other touted series, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” had averaged 1.9 million viewers for its second season during its first seven days on the service (from Dec. 5-11, 2018).
