Kansas City Chiefs Defensive Tackle Dontari Poe Throws a Touchdown Pass

Already ahead 27-13 with 1:53 left in the game on the Christmas night edition of NBC’s “Sunday Night Football“, the Kansas City Chiefs — two yards away from the goal line — put in 340+-pound defensive tackle Dontari Poe in as quarterback. Poe jumped up and lofted a pass to receiver Demetrius Harris for a touchdown to extend their lead over division rival Denver Broncos 33-10, which would eventually result in the game’s final score.

The play was popularly referred to on Twitter as “FAT GUY TOUCHDOWN PASS.”

Dontari Poe is the first player who primarily played on defense with a TD pass since Saints DB Tom Myers in 1981 (Myers played DB 1971-1982). (Source: ESPN Stats and Info)

With the loss, the Denver Broncos, who had won Super Bowl 50 just ten months prior, were eliminated from playoff contention.
