‘Little Big Shots’ on NBC the Sunday Standout

Ratings Breakdown:
CBS topped this third Sunday in the household overnights, besting No. 2 NBC by a hefty 57 percent. But the true success story of the night is NBC’s recently introduced “Little Big Shots,” which in its second episode on the Sunday 8 p.m. hour (and third overall) scored a dominant 7.7 rating/12 share from 8-9 p.m. Comparably, this was only 12 percent below the stellar 8.8/14 from one week earlier. And that translated into 15.00 million viewers and a 2.8 rating/9 share in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data.

“Little Big Shots” led into a 3.2/ 5 (#3) in the household overnights for sophomore sitcom “The Carmichael Show” at 9 p.m., which slipped by 59 percent from the 8:30 p.m. portion of “Little Big Shots” (7.9/12). And that led into the time period debut of “Crowed,” which at a 2.5/ 4 (#3) at 9:30 p.m. dropped by 22 percent from “The Carmichael Show.” By 10 p.m., “Hollywood Game Night” in its new time period was down to a distant third-place 1.9/ 3.

One week earlier, the first of two episodes of “The Carmichael Show” scored a 4.1/ 6 in the 9 p.m. half-hour.

Earlier in the evening on NBC was a repeat of “Little Big Shots” at a second-place 4.4/ 7 at 7 p.m. While NBC now has a built-in option for Sunday if it chooses to hold already renewed “Little Big Shots” for midseason, the rest of the evening after football season still needs repairing.

On CBS, the individual program results are estimated due to NCAA Basketball bleeding into primetime with a 7.8/14 in the 7 p.m. half-hour. That led into a 7.6/12 for granddaddy “60 Minutes” from 7:30-8:30 p.m., followed by sophomore “Madam Secretary” (#2: 6.9/10 from 8:30-9:30 p.m.), soon-to-conclude “The Good Wife” (#1: 5.8/ 9 from 9:30-10:30 p.m.) and the first half-hour of a Sunday edition of on-the-fence “Elementary” (4.1/ 7).

On Fox, the live two-hour musical production of “The Passion,” narrated by Tyler Perry, scored a 4.3/ 7 in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m., which built from 7:30 p.m. animated special “Ice Age: The Great Egg-Scape” (1.4/ 2) by a considerable 207 percent. “Passion” grew in each of the four half-hours as follows: 3.9/ 6 – 4.0/ 6 – 4.5/ 7 – 4.8/ 7.

Earlier in the evening on Fox was animated “The Simpsons” at a 1.7/ 3 at 7 p.m.

Over at ABC, tired “Once Upon a Time” dipped to a 2.4/ 4 at 8 p.m., which was 25 percent below lead-in “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (#3: 3.2/ 5 at 7 p.m.). Next was a series-low 2.0/ 3 (#4) for recently introduced “The Family“ at 9 p.m., which is just waiting to be canceled at this point. “Quantico” at 10 p.m., which is already renewed for next season, perked up to a second-place 2.6/ 5 at 10 p.m., which was an increase of 30 percent.
