Ratings Breakdown:
“Bones” on Fox, which aired in more time periods than perhaps any other primetime series in the history of television, concluded its 12-season run with a modest 2.8 rating/5 share in households in the 9 p.m. hour. Comparably, however, this was 75 percent above sitcom lead-ins “New Girl” and “The Mick” (each at a 1.6/ 3 from 8-9 p.m.). Now former “Bones” star David Boreanaz has replaced Jim Caviezel as the lead in CBS’ untitled Navy SEAL drama pilot, which follows the lives of the elite Navy SEALs as they train, plan and execute the most dangerous, high-stakes missions our country can ask. Boreanaz will play Jason, the leader of his assault team.
CBS scored an easy Tuesday overnight household victory with its combination of “NCIS” (#1 for the night: 8.9/15), “Bull” (7.0/11) and “NCIS: New Orleans” (6.0/11). The network finished first in each of the six half hours and all three dramas are already confirmed to return next season. But despite the absence of “This Is Us,” the home of “The Voice,” NBC, is still a safe bet for victory in adults 18-49 (and all the key young adult demographics).
“The Voice” scored a 6.6/11 (#2) from 8-9 p.m., leading into two more episodes of recently introduced sitcom “Trial & Error” (9 p.m.: #2t, 2.8/ 5; 9:30 p.m.: #2, 2.0/ 3). “Trial & Error,” on average, lost about two-thirds of the household rating from aforementioned time period occupant “This Is Us.”
At 10 p.m., “Chicago Fire” on NBC (#2: 4.3/ 8) outdelivered the season (or series) finale of “People Icons” on ABC (#3: 1.5/ 3) by a whopping 187 percent.
Earlier in the evening on ABC were encore telecasts of sitcoms “The Middle” (#3: 2.6/ 4), which is confirmed to return for season nine, “American Housewife” (two episodes – 8:30 p.m.: #3, 2.0/ 3; 9 p.m.: #4: 1.9/ 3) and “Fresh Off the Boat” (#4: 1.7/ 3).
The CW capped off the evening with its top-rated series, “The Flash” (#4: 1.9/ 3) and midseason returnee “The 100” (#5: .2/ 2), which is already confirmed to return next season.
