Ratings Breakdown:
Led by “The Big Bang Theory,” CBS stood well above the competition in the Thursday overnights with a 59 percent household advantage over second place NBC. “The Big Bang Theory” scored a 10.2 rating/17 share in households in the 8 p.m. half-hour, leading into time period dependent “The Great Indoors” at a 5.0/ 8 at 8:30 p.m. While “The Great Indoors” did dominate the time period, it also slipped by 51 percent from “The Big Bang Theory.”
Next on CBS was “Mom” at first-place 5.5/ 9 in the 9 p.m. half-hour into an also dominant 4.5/ 7 for sophomore “Life in Pieces” at 9:30 p.m. Canceled medical drama “Pure Genius” closed the night with a second-place 3.6/ 6 at 10 p.m., which trailed a special edition of ABC’s”20/20” (America’s First Family: The Trumps Go to Washington: 3.7/ 7) by just one-tenth of a rating point. Third in the hour was once watercooler-worthy “The Blacklist” on NBC at a 3.4/ 6.
In season (or series) finale news, NBC sitcom “The Good Place” finished with a fourth-place 2.6/ 4 at 8:30 p.m. An 8 p.m. installment of the Kristen Bell/Ted Danson sitcom scored a 2.8/ 5 (#2t) at 8 p.m., which does not bode well for a potential second season renewal. NBC drama “Chicago Med” perked up to a second-place 4.2/ 7 in the 9 p.m. hour, which was 62 percent above the 8:30 p.m. portion of “The Good Place.”
In week two news, Fox 9 p.m. reality/competition “My Kitchen Rules” was on par with its week-ago debut with a 1.8/ 3 at 9 p.m. (#4). Last week, that translated into 2.51 million viewers and a 0.9 rating/3 share in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same Day data. At 8 p.m. on Fox was “Hell’s Kitchen” at a typical 2.7/ 4 (#2t) in the overnights in the 8 p.m. hour.
Elsewhere, ABC populated the 8-10 p.m. block with encore telecasts of “Grey’s Anatomy” (#2t: 2.7/ 4) and “Scandal” (#3: 2.3/ 4), which returns next week for its new season. And The CW aired repeats of “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” (#5: 0.7/ 1) and “Supernatural” (#5: 0.6/ 1).
