Monday Final Nationals: ‘American Ninja Warrior’ on NBC Posts Second Most-Viewed Season Finale To-Date

The Week 2 “Monday Night Football” game – a Detroit Lions’ 24-10 victory over the New York Giants – helped ESPN win the night among all networks (broadcast or cable) in households, viewers and all key male and adult demos (18-34, 18-49 and 25-54) – the second straight Monday that ESPN has won the night in all categories. The MNF game also ranked as the No. 1 telecast of the night among households, viewers and all key male and adult demos.

In Detroit, the game delivered an 11.3 rating on ESPN and a 17.4 rating on WXYZ-ABC, for a combined 28.7 rating in the market. In New York, the game delivered a 9.4 rating on ESPN and a 5.4 on WPIX-CW, for a combined 14.8 rating in the market.

The top 10 metered markets (not including those of the competing teams): New Orleans (13.8), Norfolk (12.9), Philadelphia (12.5), Richmond-Petersburg (12.1), Washington, DC (11.0), Buffalo (10.7), Atlanta (10.4), Las Vegas (10.3), Baltimore (10.2) and Denver (10.1).

The ninth season finale of NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” (5.96 million viewers) was the second most-watched “Ninja” finale ever, behind only the 6.2 million for the Sep. 14, 2015 season-closer. It was up one percent in total viewers versus last year’s finale (5.959 million vs. 5.877 million). The margin between “Ninja” and the season premiere of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” in the time slot narrowed down to within 0.1 (1.6 for “Dancing” vs. 1.5 for “Ninja”), compared to the year-ago 0.4 (2.1 for the “Dancing” debut vs. 1.7 for the “Ninja” finale on Sep. 12, 2016).
