Monday Final Nationals: Penguins-Predators on NBC Registers Second-Largest NHL Stanley Cup Final Game 4 Audience in 23 Years

For the fifth consecutive Monday night, NBC was prime time’s most-watched network. They led in total viewers on this night with 5.63 million from 8-11 p.m. NBC also topped this Monday among all key demos with Game 4 of the “2017 NHL Stanley Cup Final” series between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Nashville Predators. 5.74 million viewers tuned into this game (5.66 million on TV, 83,000 via streaming) marking it as the second-largest Stanley Cup Final Game 4 audience on record (since 1994), behind only Chicago-Boston in 2013 (6.459 million). Predators-Penguins was significantly up 34 percent over the year-ago Game 4 of San Jose-Pittsburgh from June 6, 2016 (4.29 million).

Game 4 peaked with 6.3 million TV-only viewers during the 10:45-11 p.m. ET quarter-hour.

Locally, Nashville posted a 28.0 rating — a new NHL on NBC Sports record within that market — while Pittsburgh continued to lead all of the nation’s markets with a 30.9 rating.

Through four games, the 2017 Stanley Cup Final is averaging a Total Audience Delivery of 4.231 million viewers, up 24 percent vs. 2016 (3.414 million).

Another sporting event on the evening scored a ratings milestone: the longest game in softball’s Women’s College World Series Finals history (June 5 at 7 p.m. on ESPN) averaged a total live audience (TV + streaming) of 1.583 million viewers, the most-watched WCWS Finals Game 1 to-date (Best-of-3 series format began in 2005). The viewership for the Oklahoma-Florida marathon, 17-inning affair was up 51 percent from last year’s WCWS Finals first game featuring the Sooners and Auburn Tigers (June 6, 2016).
