Monday Final Nationals: ‘SNL Election Special’ Scores for NBC

'Martha and Snoop's Potluck Dinner Party' Debuts Well on VH1

ESPN again won Monday night in total viewers and all key demos with Buffalo Bills-Seattle Seahawks on “Monday Night Football.”

The timely Election Eve comedy special “SNL Election Special” on NBC easily defeated its 10 p.m. competition on ABC and NBC and well retained its “The Voice” lead-in: 80 percent in viewers (8.022 million from 9.968 million) and 91 percent in adults 18-49 (2.1 rating vs. 2.3 rating).

VH1 was Monday’s No. 2 cable network among adults 18-49 (approx. 1.0 rating) and adults 18-34 (approx. 1.1 rating) with usual Monday hit series “Love and Hip-Hop Hollywood” and “Black Ink Crew Chicago” capped off by the debut of “Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party” starring Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg. On the night, all three VH1 shows ranked in the top 7 prime time cable shows among adults 18-49 and encompassed 3 of the top 4 (“Monday Night Football” took the top spot) among adults 18-34.

  3. What’s interesting is how the media genuflect reflexively in front of SNL, which has been creatively dead for about 20 years and even when they get their one Big Event every 4 years, the ratings are still not high…

And yet they’re treated like they’re culturally relevant to all Americans…

Not incidentally it’s a mistake that NBC continues to make by hiring SNL alums on the fake theory they’re big stars…
