-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Week:
Fox: +18, NBC: – 6, ABC: – 9, CW: -10, CBS: -16
-Ratings Breakdown:
The return of “Dancing with the Stars” led ABC to Monday overnight victory, lifting the network to a nine percent advantage over second-place NBC. This abbreviated four-episode edition of “Dancing with the Stars,” themed “Athletes,” scored a 6.2 rating/10 share in households from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that bested competing “The Voice” on NBC (5.5/ 9) by 13 percent, and it was 17 percent above “American Idol” one week earlier (5.3/ 9 on April 23). But “Dancing with the Stars” was also 14 percent below the 7.2/12 in the overnights on the year-ago evening. And already eliminating two contestants in the first telecast seemed awfully rushed to me.
Also opening a new season was detective drama “Elementary” on CBS, which won the 10 p.m. hour with a modest 3.3/ 6 in the household overnights. Comparably, this was similar to recent time period occupant “Scorpion,” which is on the fence for renewal. And it beat competing “Good Girls” on NBC (2.7/ 5) and “The Crossing” on ABC (2.6/ 5) by 22 percent and 27 percent, respectively. Chances of a second season for both “Good Girls” and “The Crossing” are questionable at best.
Earlier in the evening on CBS was the 8-10 p.m. sitcom combination of “Kevin Can Wait” (#3: 3.3/ 6), compatible “Man with a Plan” (#3: 3.2/ 5), “Superior Donuts” (#4: 2.9/ 5) and an encore telecast of “The Big Bang Theory” (#4: 2.9/ 5), which has stepped in for recent failed entry “Living Biblically.”
Elsewhere, Fox has nothing unusual to report with its pairing of dramas “Lucifer” (#4: 2.2/ 3 at 8 p.m.) and “The Resident” (#3: 3.0/ 5 at 9 p.m.). And The CW featured “Supergirl” (#5: 1.2/ 2 at 8 p.m.) into on the fence “iZombie” (#5: 0.5/ 1), which slipped by 58 percent.
