Monday Overnights: NBC Leads; Modest Return for ‘Better Late Than Never’

Ratings Breakdown:
NBC’s “The Voice” led the network to opening week overnight victory, with the still solid singing competition at a 6.4 rating/10 share in households from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, this more than doubled competing ABC holiday competition “The Great Christmas Light Fight,” which averaged a 2.9/ 5.

In season-premiere news was NBC comedy reality series “Better Late Than Never,” now in season two, at a second-place 3.3/ 5 in the household overnights in the 10 p.m. hour. While this trailed CBS’ competing “Scorpion” (#1: 4.1/ 7) by 20 percent, it is still poised for victory once the adult 18-49 ratings are released.

Third in the 10 p.m. hour was ABC special, “The Bachelor: Countdown to Arie” at a modest 1.9/ 3. The upcoming season of “The Bachelor” begins on Monday, January 1 at 8 p.m. ET.

Earlier in the evening on CBS was the 8-10 p.m. combination of sitcoms “Kevin Can Wait” (#2: 4.2/ 7), “Man With a Plan” (#2: 3.7/ 6), “Superior Donuts” (#2: 3.5/ 5) and “9JKL” (#2: 3.0/ 5), which all remain down from the year-ago time period performances.

Elsewhere, Fox featured dramas “Lucifer” (#4: 2.6/ 4 at 8 p.m.) and “The Gifted” (#4: 2.1/ 3 at 9 p.m.), which do not resonate in the overnights. And The CW featured an encore telecast of “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” (#5: 0.7/ 1 at 8 p.m.) and freshman drama “Valor” (#5: 0.6/ 1 at 9 p.m.), which will conclude following the initial 13 episodes ordered.
