Monday Overnights: ‘The Bachelorette’ Season-Opener on ABC Slips by 10 Percent Year-to-Year

Ratings Breakdown:
ABC summer staple “The Bachelorette” opened a new season with a 3.6 rating/6 share in the household overnights from 8-10 p.m., which trailed competing “The Voice” on NBC (#1: 5.2/ 9) by 31 percent. Comparably, “The Bachelorette” opened 10 percent below its year-ago season opener (4.0 household rating on May 28, 2018).

Particularly positive for Fox was a Monday 8 p.m. telecast of Ryan Murphy’s “9-1-1” at a solid 4.9/ 9 (#2) in households. Comparably, this was more than double the 2.4/ 4 for “Lucifer” on the year-ago evening and it signals what could be a positive showing in this time period next fall (into new drama “Prodigal Son”).

Fox, however, fell off the overnight map at 9 p.m. with a mere 1.0/ 2 (#4) for the failing reboot of “Paradise Hotel.”

There were two season finales last night: “Arrow” on The CW (#5: 0.8/ 1), which will have an abbreviated final eighth season in 2019-20, and CBS drama “Bull” (#1: 5.3/10). Comparably, “Bull” bested competing dramas “The Enemy Within” on NBC (#2: 2.6/ 5) and “The Fix” on ABC (#3: 2.0/ 4) by 104 percent and 165 percent, respectively.

Elsewhere, CBS’ on-the-fence freshman drama “The Code” finished second in the Monday 9 p.m. hour with a 4.0/ 7.
