30 of TV’s MOST DIVERSITY-DEFINING MOMENTS: Click here

MONDAY 4/09/18

Household Rating/Share
NBC: 5.1/ 9, ABC: 4.5/ 7, CBS: 3.4/ 6, Fox: 1.3/ 2, CW: 0.9/ 1

Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:
CW: +50, NBC: + 2, CBS: – 8, ABC: -18, Fox: -38

Ratings Breakdown:
“The Voice” led NBC to another Monday overnight victory, with a consistent 6.2 rating/10 share in households from 8-10 p.m. Comparably, that beat ABC’s competing “American Idol” (#2: 5.1/ 8) by 22 percent. “Idol,” meanwhile, was a considerable 29 percent below the 7.2/12 for “Dancing With the Stars” on the year-ago evening. While the gap between the two reality competitions will certainly be smaller in adults 18-49 (and all the key demo groups), these rating results for “American Idol” do not warrant the investment ABC had to make to bring the singing competition back.

In week two news, ABC drama “The Crossing” slipped by 16 percent from its week-ago opener, with a 3.1/ 5 in the household overnights in the 10 p.m. hour. Comparably, that was 14 percent below competing “Scorpion” on CBS (#1: 3.6/ 6), and a slight improvement from recent entry “Good Girls” on NBC (2.9/ 5). And it was actually 55 percent above year-ago time period occupant “Quantico” (2.0/ 4 on 4/10/17), which leads you to wonder why ABC renewed “Quantico” for a third season.

Earlier in the evening on CBS was the 8-10 p.m. sitcom combination of “Kevin Can Wait” (#3: 3.8/ 6), “Man With a Plan” (#3: 3.6/ 6), “Superior Donuts” (#3: 3.2/ 5) and recent entry “Living Biblically,” which sunk to a series low 2.6/ 4 at 9:30 p.m.. One year earlier, “2 Broke Girls” scored a 3.1/ 5 in the household overnights in the 9:30 p.m. half-hour. In other words, chances of a second season for “Living Biblically” are nil.

Elsewhere, The CW featured the season-finale of already renewed “D.C.’s Legends of Tomorrow” (#5: 1.1/ 2 at 8 p.m.) into on-the-fence “iZombie” (#5: 0.6/ 1 at 9 p.m.). And Fox featured encore telecasts of dramas “Lucifer” (#4: 1.2/ 2 at 8 p.m.) and “The Resident” (#4: 1.3/ 2 at 9 p.m.).
