The Year After

January; a month well known for the post-holiday blues, for feeling flat as a pancake, having absolutely no desire to do anything, and being really, really broke. Yes, this wonderful time is once again around the corner! Heading into a new year is exciting, but when you’ve had a year like 2021, it can also be a little bit draining, having to get back to life and start work or school again. Fear not! Because we have the perfect solution for you, some new and exciting shows that are debuting in the new year. Staying home means staying safe and saving some cash, but it doesn’t have to be boring, not when 2022 is poised to be one of the best years for TV entertainment yet. So grab the remote and settle down because whether you’re looking for a bit of evening entertainment, a rainy day cuddle fest, or a show to keep you company when you’re up late, there’s something for you on our list.

Euphoria

To say that Euphoria caused a stir when it was released would be the understatement of the year and probably the understatement of next year too! The show became a cult classic almost instantly. It is loved for its gritty reality, for its inclusivity, for its fashion, and definitely for its casting. Season one introduced us to a cast of characters that we won’t soon forget and have been dying to see more of since it ended on a very uncertain note. Fans have been clamoring to see more of Zendaya’s Rue and Hunter Schafer’s Jules since the show first premiered, and in January, they’ll finally get their wish. We recommend re-watching season 1 right now; firstly, because you can never get enough Euphoria, and secondly so, you’ll be ready to take in the amazement of a new season come the new year. Here’s to living euphorically.

Bridgerton

Shonda Rhimes can do no wrong, and Bridgerton was only further proof of that sentiment. When the period drama was first released in 2021, it took over and filled the hole left by the last season of Downton Abbey. Its Downton-Abbey-for-the-Gossip-Girl-generation approach to period theatrics won it millions of fans almost immediately. In fact, fans loved the show so much that they adapted it into a TikTok musical -that’s a whole lot of love. The Bridgerton cast is returning to reprise their roles, but some new blood is also being added to the show; Sex Education’s Simone Ashley will be bringing her own flair to the new season when it releases in the new year. The storyline promises to be even more enthralling than last season’s, so strap on your bonnets for a wild ride.

Stranger Things

Eleven and the crew are back for a fourth season, finally! It’s been almost three years since Stranger Things season three dropped, and that’s just way too much time between adventures for us. Season four moves us to a new locale – California- where Eleven is staying with Will, Jonathan, and Joyce while the rest of the crew are left behind in Hawkins. The Upside Down gets a new setting as well, and we can’t wait to check out the creep factor it brings along with it.

The Dropout

There’s no shortage of silver screen actors in the coming year’s TV offerings, and that includes Amanda Seyfried. Seyfried stars in The Dropout, the true story of self-made billionaire Elizabeth Holmes. While many have tried to tell this story before, none have done it quite so well as this. The young billionairess starts making bold claims and telling the world that she has invented a new kind of blood test that will completely revolutionize the healthcare profession. However, all is not as it seems, and when it’s uncovered that Holmes is a big fat liar and hasn’t invented anything at all, she is immediately arrested and must stand trial for wire fraud. The show highlights the issues with the prominent “fake it till you make it” culture that’s everywhere in Silicon Valley. This true story premieres in March 2022 on Hulu.

Wrap Up

The new year is looking exciting for a number of reasons, all of these genuinely binge-worthy TV shows among them. We can’t wait to see what appears on our streaming services in 2022.
