NBCUniversal Announces Peacock as the Name of its Streaming Service

Peacock to Launch in April 2020

In a nod to its historical roots, NBC is calling its upcoming streaming service Peacock. Peacock, which is both advertiser and subscription supported, rolls out in April 2020 with over 15,000 hours of content and takes center stage at the end of July during the 2020 Summer Olympics. As previously announced, Peacock will be both advertising and subscription supported.  

Original programming to be streamed on Peacock include a reboot of “Battlestar Galactica,” and dramas “Dr. Death” Starring Alec Baldwin, Jamie Dornan and Christian Slater; “Brave New World” with Demi Moore; and “Armas de Mujer” from Team Behind Telemundo’s Hit “La Reina del Sur.” In the sitcom department is original comedies from Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Lorne Michaels, Mike Schur, Ed Helms Jada Pinkett Smith, Rashida Jones and Tracey Wigfield; and reboots of “Saved by the Bell” and “Punky Brewster.”

Universal Pictures, Focus Features and DreamWorks Animation, meanwhile, will create original movies for Peacock.
