Netflix Acquires ‘The Legend of Korra’

A Total of 52 Episodes Were Produced for its Original Run on Nickelodeon

Netflix will begin streaming “The Legend of Korra,” the sequel to “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” on Friday, August 14. “The Legend of Korra” ran on Nickelodeon between 2012 and 2014 and it followed Korra, a new Avatar and successor to “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” “The Legend of Korra” was praised for its LGBTQ+ themes, especially for a children’s cartoon series that aired on Nickelodeon, and for its sociopolitical themes.

The logline: As with its predecessor, the series is set in a fictional universe in which some people can manipulate, or “bend”, the elements of water, earth, fire, or air. Only one person, the “Avatar,” can bend all four elements, and is responsible for maintaining balance in the world. The series follows Avatar Korra, the successor of Aang from the previous series, as she faces political and spiritual unrest in a modernizing world.

A total of 52 episodes aired in the four seasons of “The Legend of Korra” on Nickelodeon from 2012 to 2014.
