Oprah Winfrey Receives Cecil B. de Mille Award at 2018 Golden Globe Awards

Media icon Oprah Winfrey accepted the Cecil B. de Mille Award for lifetime achievement at the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards on Jan. 7. Winfrey is the first African-American female to receive the honor.

In her acceptance speech that delivered a standing ovation from the celebrity crowd, she referred to legendary actor Sidney Poitier, producer Quincy Jones and civil rights icon Recy Taylor. Winfrey also made note of women and their role amidst the spectre of sexual harassment from male figures of power, proudly proclaiming about these power-exploiting men “their time is up.”
