Ratings Breakdown:
CBS opened the week on a winning overnight note, besting the home of “The Bachelor,” ABC, by 12 percent in households. Kevin James sitcom “Kevin Can Wait,” which is inching closer to a second season renewal, rose to a 5.1 rating/8 share in the 8 p.m. half-hour. Comparably, that was four percent above the 4.9/ 8 one week earlier. And that led into an also above-average 4.6/16 for freshman “Man With a Plan,” which held 90 percent of the lead-in.

In episode three news (and the second Monday telecast), CBS comedy “Superior Donuts” had full retention out of “Man With a Plan,” with a 4.6/ 7 in the 9 p.m. half-hour. Comparably, that was on par with one week earlier, which translated into 7.34 million viewers and a 1.4 rating/5 share in adults adult 18-49 on Feb. 6, based on the Live + Same Day data.

Next on CBS was “2 Broke Girls,” which held 85 percent of the “Superior Donuts” lead-in with a 3.9/ 6 at 9:30 p.m. And dominant “Scorpion” at 10 p.m. (4.8/ 8) bested competing “Timeless”
on NBC (2.2/ 4) and relocated “Quantico” on ABC (1.9/ 3) by 118 percent and 153 percent, respectively. “Quantico” is a true example of what can happen when a network takes a series off the air for three months, which it did last season, and assumes the entire audience will return. That is always risky.

Also in week two news was Fox crime solver “APB,” which at a third-place 3.3/ 5 in the household overnights at 9 p.m. slipped by 21 percent from the 4.2/ 7 debut one week earlier. That 4.2 rating translated into 6.10 million viewers and a 1.5/ 5 in adults 18-49, based on the Live + Same data. Comparably, however, retention for “APB” out of the second Monday telecast (and third overall) of “24: Legacy” (#3: 3.8/ 6 at 8 p.m.) was respectable at 84 percent. One year earlier, the revival of “The X-Files” (opposite “The Grammys” on CBS) was stronger on Fox at a 4.5/ 7 in the Monday 8 p.m. hour.

In season (or series) finale news, “The New Celebrity Apprentice” on NBC, which was unusually modest in content given the winner was announced, was stalled at the overnight gate with a 5.4/ 4 at 9 p.m. Congratulations Matt Iseman.

Earlier in the evening on NBC was an encore telecast of game show “The Wall” at a fourth-place 2.5/ 4 at 8 p.m.

On ABC, “The Bachelor” was slightly below-average at a 5.1/ 8 from 8-10 p.m. And The CW was at typical household overnight levels care of “Supergirl” (#5: 1.9/ 3), which remains a marked improvement over anything airing in the year-ago time period, and “Jane the Virgin” (#5: 0.9/ 1), which owes its survival to the ongoing critical accolades. It is not always just about the traditional Nielsen ratings.
