Rajasthan Royals Owners Buy The Barbados Tridents Franchise

Barbados Tridents is a big name within the cricket nation. They have won the Caribbean premier league twice and still show promise. With all this potential, the Royals Sports Group has decided to grab them while still hot. Their majority stake allowed them to change the Tridents’ name to the Barbados Royals. The move makes the Rajasthan Royals the third IPL Franchise to be linked to the Caribbean league. This is after the owners of Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings acquired Trinbago Knight Riders and St. Lucia Zouks, respectively.

The Barbados Tridents won their first championship in the CPL 2014 under the captaincy of Keiron Pollard. Pollard’s aggressive batting and his strong leadership skills catapulted the team to the top. The Tridents also won the CPL championships in 2019, with Jason Holder leading the team. Jason Holder is the best all-rounder cricketer in the world, and he remains unbeaten. He played as a skipper for the Barbados team in 2019 and won them the league. His performance has earned him his place in the Barbados Tridents team 2021 as captain of the Barbados Royals. Therefore, he will lead with the assistance of Kumar Sangakkara of the Rajasthan Royals, further cementing the two teams’ bond. Sangakkara will be director of cricket for the Barbados royals, a role he also played for the Rajasthan Royals.

The new owners are excited at the prospect of promoting growth in cricket through the Barbados Royals. They are looking to innovate and develop strategies that will make the Royals better at the game. Additionally, the Royals Sports Group is excited about their player picks. They are especially thrilled about the talent pool of local players they have retained or drafted.

Manoj Badale, the Chairperson of the Royals Sports Group, says he looks forward to positively impacting cricket in Barbados and tourism. Lisa Cummins, the Tourism minister for Barbados, agrees that this new partnership will allow for a bigger audience which means new visitors into the country. The country is all for the opportunity to showcase their country. They also want to show how cricket has become part of who they are. Manoj adds that this acquisition is a big step in their plans for the Royals brand globally.

The acquisition of the Barbados Tridents was announced the same week Mike Fordham was made the CEO of RSG. His appointment was part of the group’s efforts to expand by investing in other cricket properties in the future.RedBird Capital Partners had previously acquired a 15% stake in the Royals. The Barbados team will benefit from this partnership. This partnership with the US private investment firm valued the team at 250 million US Dollars.

CPL 2021 schedule is released and all the matches will begin on 26th August and end on 15th September in St Kitts. The Barbados Royals will kick off the season on 26th August against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. They will be playing in the second game on the opening day.

Barbados Royals 2021 Retentions

The Barbados Royals retain their captain Jason Holder who has proven to be the best test all-rounder cricketer the world has ever seen. Kyle Mayers, Shai Hope, Justin Greaves, Joshua Bishop, Raymon Reifer, and Nyeem Young are Joining him. Their opening batsman Johnson Charles who played for Barbados in the CPL 2019, where they won, is back. Hayden Walsh Jr, the leg spinner, also secured a spot in the CPL 2021 team. The Barbados Royals let go of eight players from last season, including overseas players like Rashid Khan, Mitchell Santner, and Corey Anderson.

They also released Shamarh Brooks, Keon Harding, Ashley Nurse, Jonathan Carter, and Shayan Jahangir. There are eight slots yet to be filled in the Barbados Tridents players list. The franchise is working on getting the best overseas players to fill some of those spots. They are excited for the 2021 Caribbean Premier League and plan on taking back the championships this year.
