What follows are the metered market household results by half-hour for Sunday, September 24, 2017:
Household Rating/Share
NBC: 8.7/15, CBS: 7.0/12, ABC: 2.8/ 5, Fox: 2.4/ 4
-Percent Change From the Year-Ago Opening Sunday (9/25/16):
Fox: +20, ABC: + 8, NBC: -13, CBS: -20
Ratings Breakdown:
NFL Football ruled on NBC, as expected, with the Seahawk’s 46 to 18 victory over the Colts at an estimated 11.0 rating/19 share in the household overnights from 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. ET. Not even the “sharks” on ABC’s relocated “Shark Tank” could complete, with the season-premiere plus a second episode at an average 3.6/ 6 from 8-10 p.m. “Shark Tank” was, however, 140 percent above the second season premiere of lead-in “The Toy Box” (#4: 1.5/ 2 at 7 p.m.). “Shark Tank” was also 32 percent above the year-ago opening season combination of dramas “Once Upon a Time” (2.6/ 4 on 9/25/16) and “Secrets & Lies” (3.0/ 5). And it was close to year-ago overnight levels in the Friday 8 p.m. hour.
In other words, football dominated but “Shark Tank” was not a bust. The debut of ABC drama “Ten Days in the Valley,” however, sunk to a mere 2.4/ 5 in the household overnights at 10 p.m. Comparably, that was 14 percent below year-ago time period occupant “Quantico” (2.8/ 5 on 9/25/16). Since most new dramas drop 10 to 20 percent in week two, consider this DOA for “Ten Days in the Valley.”
All individual program results for CBS are approximate due to the primetime football overrun, which slid the start time for “60 Minutes” to 7:48 p.m. ET (#1: 8.9/15) on the East Coast. “60 Minutes” led into an estimated 5.9/ 9 for new drama “Wisdom of the Crowd” from 8:48-9:48 p.m., which compares to the 7.1/11 for the year-ago season premiere for former time period occupant “NCIS: Los Angeles.” Chances are the demos for “Wisdom of the Crowd” out of “60 Minutes” will be older, but the 5.9 overnight household rating should translate into a respectable audience seized sampling.
“Wisdom of the Crowd” led into a 5.8/ 9 for relocated “NCIS: Los Angeles” from 9:48-10:48 p.m. ET, followed by an encore telecast of “SEAL Team” (3.1/ 6). Again, these Eye net individual program results are only rough estimates.
The third series premiering last night was Fox sitcom “Ghosted,” which opened with a modest 2.4/ 4 in the household overnights at 8:30 p.m. (#4) out of a 2.2/ 4 for the season-premiere of veteran animated “The Simpsons” (#4: 2.2/ 4 at 8 p.m.). Comparably, however, “Ghosted” was 20 percent above the 2.0/ 3 for short-lived “Son of Zorn” on the year-ago evening.
