SUNDAY 2/12/17

What follows are the metered market household results by half-hour for Sunday, Feb. 19:

Note: The following overnight results exclude San Antonio

Household Rating/Share
CBS: 5.5 rating/9 share, NBC: 3.0/ 5, ABC: 2.1/ 4, Fox: 1.1/ 2

Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening:
CBS: -14, Fox: -17, NBC: -25, ABC: -43

Ratings Breakdown:
It was an easy Sunday overnight victory for CBS, which bested distant No. 2 NBC by 83 percent in households. Airing out of granddaddy “60 Minutes” (#1 for the night: 7.6 rating/13 share from 7-8 p.m.), the series premiere/preview of “The Good Fight” was sampled at a dominant 5.2/ 9 in the 8 p.m. hour. Comparably, this was a similar overnight performance to parent series “The Good Wife,” and the overnight retention for “The Good Fight” out of the 7:30 p.m. portion of “60 Minutes” (7.8/14) was 67 percent.

The remaining nine episodes of “The Good Fight” will stream on CBS All Access., with new episodes available weekly on Sundays exclusively for CBS All-Access subscribers on-demand.

Next on CBS was a 9 p.m. edition of “NCIS: Los Angeles” at a 5.7/ 9 at 9 p.m., which built by 12 percent out of the 8:30 p.m. portion of “The Good Fight” (5.1/ 8), followed by tired “Elementary” at a 3.4/ 6 at 10 p.m. Both dramas won their time periods in the overnights.

In the specials depart was “The Paley Center Salutes NBC’s 90th Anniversary,” which at a 3.1/ 5 at 8-11 p.m. on NBC was a marked improvement from the 1.1/ 2 in the household overnights for last season’s Paley Center special, “TV’s Funniest Animated Stars,” on Fox on Monday, Dec. 7, 2015.

Earlier in the evening on NBC was an encore telecast of “Dateline” at a 2.5/ 4 (#3) at 7 p.m.

In season (or series) finale news, Fox’s freshman “Son of Zorn,” a hybrid of live action and animation, dipped to a mere 0.9/ 2 at 8:30 p.m. (out of a diluted) 1.8/ 3 for veteran lead-in “The Simpsons.” An encore of “Son of Zorn” opened the night with a 0.6/ 1 at 7 p.m. (#4) into a 0.8/ 1 for a repeat of “The Simpsons” at 7:30 p.m. Needless to say, I would not expect a second season for “Son of Zorn.”

Also on Fox was the pairing of animated “Family Guy” (#4: 1.3/ 2) and “Bob’s Burgers” (#4: 1.2/ 2) from 9-10 p.m., which only magnifies the troubles the network is currently having on Sunday.

ABC capped off the evening with “America’s Funniest Home Videos” (#3: 2.5/ 4 at 7 p.m.) into a repeat telecast of 2010 theatrical “Tangled” (1.8/ 3 from 8-10 p.m.) and a 10 p.m. edition of “To Tell the Truth” (#3: 1.8/ 3). ABC also has its work cut out fixing Sunday next season.
