Saturday Final Nationals: Start of NBA Playoffs on ABC and ESPN Draw Year-to-Year Increases

UFC on Fox More Than Triples Premier Boxing Champions on NBC Among Adults 18-49

CBS, with two crime drama reruns and an original edition of “48 Hours”, was Saturday night’s most-watched network with an average of 3.84 million viewers. ESPN led among adults 18-49 with a 1.2 rating in the demo, thanks to the first day of the “2016 NBA Playoffs”. The three ESPN games — Indiana Pacers at Toronto Raptors, Boston Celtics at Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks at Oklahoma City Thunder (the latter two matchups airing in prime time) — averaged 2.611 million viewers, up 3 percent from the three ESPN games on Apr. 20, 2015 (2.543 million).

On ABC in the afternoon, the Golden State Warriors’ dominating Game 1 victory over the Houston Rockets drew a 3.9 overnight rating (Source: ESPN)
which represents a 22 percent increase from the 3.2 overnight of ABC’s New Orleans-Golden State from Apr. 20, 2015 (in finals, New Orleans-Golden State drew a 2.3 final household rating and 3.5 million viewers).

The UFC Octagon easily bested the boxing ring in prime time as Fox nearly doubled NBC’s “Premier Boxing Champions” in total audience and more than tripled it among adults 18-49. Compared to the year-ago “UFC Fight Night” from Apr. 20, 2015 (Machida vs. Rockhold), Fox’s Teixeira vs. Evans was down 9 percent in total viewership (2.487 million vs. 2.745 million) and down 14 percent in adults 18-49 (1.207 million vs. 1.403 million).
