Showtime Cancels ‘Masters of Sex’

No Fifth Season for the Critically Acclaimed Drama

Showtime has opted against a fifth season of drama “Masters of Sex.” The now final episode on Sunday, Nov. 13 concluded with William Masters (Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan) tying the knot.

Debuting on Sept. 29, 2013 and loosely based on Thomas Maier’s biography of the duo, the series explored the research and the relationship between these two pioneering researchers of human sexuality at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. The series began in the 1950s, before moving into the 1960s, and finally, in season four, to the 1970s.

Over its run, “Masters of Sex” earned 10 Emmy nominations, including three nominations and one win for Allison Janney for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series. A total of 46 episodes were produced.
