Stephen Colbert Bids Fond Farewell to ‘Late Show’ Showrunner Chris Licht

On the February 28, 2022 edition of CBS late night talk show “The Late Show”, host Stephen Colbert paid tribute to the program’s exiting showrunner Chris Licht. Licht, who had been with “Late Show” for the past six years, will become the new CEO of CNN, replacing Jeff Zucker who recently stepped down.

Colbert joked “I believe legally CNN now stands for the Colbert News Network.”

Later, while pointing over to Licht, Colbert said, “There are bosses, and then there are leaders. Bosses tell you what to do. Leaders work as hard as you do to do what needs to be done. That’s what YOU did.”

Colbert added: “I am happy that CNN will now benefit from all of his wisdom.”

To conclude the tribute, Colbert brought out the character “Shrieking Joe” to perform for Licht, as an inside joke. “Joe” was described as a hybrid of Kid Rock and Ted Nugent. The show had not used “Joe” often for Licht had deemed his presence as unpopular by the viewers.
