ABC led the final Sunday night of the 2016-17 traditional TV season with an average of 7.63 million viewers, a 2.2/8 rating/share in adults 18-49 and a 2.6/8 rating/share in adults 25-54. The “Billboard Music Awards” was TV’s most-watched telecast in overall viewers, although the event itself dropped to a 5-year low in total viewership and a record-low among adults 18-49, even dating back to its days on the Fox network.
TNT led the night among adults 18-34 (approx. 1.9 rating) with Boston Celtics’ surprising Game 3 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the “2017 NBA Eastern Conference Finals”
The much-ballyhooed 112-minute return of the former ABC cult hit 1990-92 series “Twin Peaks” on Showtime only drew 506,000 viewers in its original 9:02-10:54 p.m. telecast, behind other competing premium cable entries, HBO’s “The Leftovers” (770,000 viewers) and Starz’s “American Gods” (631,000 viewers). “Twin Peaks” generated more significant engagement on social media with 256,000 interactions on Facebook and 64,000 interactions on Twitter, according to Nielsen Social — the combined total of 320,000 social media interactions ranked ninth among non-sports telecasts on television for the week ending May 21.
